JUST IN: Writer Of Popular Show The Simpsons Has After Long Struggle With Coronavirus

The Simpsons writer Marc Wilmore has passed away at the age of just 57 after battling COVID-19.   

Wilmore's brother, comedian and The Nightly Show host Larry Wilmore, confirmed his death on Twitter on Sunday evening.

The TV writer died from COVID-19, plus other health issues he had been suffering from over the past few years. 

'My sweet sweet brother, Marc Edward Wilmore, passed away last night while battling COVID and other conditions that have had him in pain for many years,' Larry said. 

'My brother was the kindest, gentlest, funniest, lion of an angel I’ve ever known. I love you little brother,' Larry concluded.

Marc and Larry were two of five siblings, who grew up in San Bernadino County, California in the 1960s.  

Marc graduated from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, before starting his TV writing career in the 1990s.

He started his writing career on the TV adaptation of Harry and the Henderson before moving over to the influential Fox comedy series In Living Color. 

After his stint on In Living Color, he became a writer on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and then The PJs before joining The Simpsons writing staff in 2002. 

He wrote 12 episodes of the long-running Fox animated comedy series between 2002 and 2015.

Wilmore won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program for his work as a producer on Eternal Moonshine of the Simpsons Mind.

After his time at The Simpsons came to a close, he went to work as a writer and producer on F is for Family in 2017. 

Wilmore was honored by writer Michael Price, who he had worked with on three different TV shows throughout his career.

'Another giant talent taken too soon,' Price began in his tweet tribute to his fellow scribe.

'I had the privilege to work alongside Marc Wilmore on 3 shows (PJs, Simpsons, FIFF) for the better part of the last 23 years and he was THE funniest person in every room. And a wonderful man. 

'He is irreplaceable. Rest In Peace, my friend,' he concluded.
