Netizens Slam Seyi Shay Over Harsh Verdict On Singer At Nigerian Idol
Seyi Shay, Nigerian singer, has come under intense criticism on Twitter, over her verdict on a 17-year-old Nigerian Idol’s contestant’s performance.
The singer is one of the judges for the music show’s sixth season alongside DJ Sose and Obi Asika.
The 35-year-old songwriter, whose real name is Oluwaseyi Odedere, had slammed the contestant after the yet-to-be-identified teenager came out on Sunday to make his presentation on the show.
Seyi Shay had told the singer, “Somebody lied to you and told you to come and audition, and that person, you should go back and tell them they’re not your friends because that was not good audition.
“Oh, you have a good talking voice, and it comes out in your singing voice, but your performance, terrible. You’re never going to make money being a singer.”
The singer, who said he was nervous, walked out devastated after the verdict.
Reacting, @endi4tim tweeted, “Such comments in some cases can lead to suicide. She shattered his hope. Seyi Shay should be removed as a judge from #NigeriaIdol.”
“The boy is 17. He barely has 3,000 followers on IG. He’s only trying to make a career in music in a country that kills its young people. Those words from Seyi Shay were too harsh and too cruel. One upcoming artiste should never insult another upcoming artiste in such a manner,” Dr Olufunmilayo wrote.
