94 year-old Sir David Attenborough took just 4 hours to shatter Jennifer Aniston's huge Instagram follower record

Sir David Attenborough has officially beaten Jennifer Aniston’s record to become the fastest person to reach one million followers on Instagram.  The 94-year-old naturalist made his first post at 10am on Thursday after joining the app, and reached a million followers just over four hours later.

His first post has already been viewed almost seven million times at the time of writing, a number which is only set to rise, while his follower count is already over 2.1million.  Reps for Guinness World Records confirmed he had smashed the previous record, telling Metro.co.uk: ‘I am pleased to confirm this record has now been verified by us.’

Sir David’s first post on the site was an IGTV video sharing his concerns about global warming, with his account managers Collin Butfield and Johnnie Hughes telling Guinness World Records: ‘Social media isn’t David’s usual habitat so while he’s recorded messages solely for Instagram, like the one in this post, we’re helping to run this account’.

Collin and Johnnie have worked with Sir David on his upcoming Netflix documentary, A Life On Our Planet. Sir David’s new record means he has knocked Friends star Jennifer off the top spot, after she gained a million followers in five hours and 16 minutes when she joined the site in October 2019.

Other record holders in the category have included footballer David Beckham and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Jennifer Aniston had held the record before David (Picture: Instagram) It’s not the only Guinness World Record Sir David holds, however, as he also has the title for the longest career as a TV presenter and longer career as a TV naturalist according to the site.
